ABOUT Harvey I. Wax

Harvey Wax joined the firm in 2011.

Mr. Wax is a recognized expert in labor, employment and discrimination law. Mr. Wax also represents clients in drafting and litigating non-compete, confidentiality and employment agreements. He frequently serves as an alternative dispute resolution mediator and facilitator for which he has been trained and certified.

Mr. Wax’s clients are primarily employers, unions and individuals in both the private and public sector. He has maintained a long-standing relationship with the Michigan Education Association, representing teachers in collective bargaining, labor disputes and litigation for over four decades. He is a recognized labor arbitrator and a member of the American Arbitration Association’s labor arbitration panel. He presently serves as a permanent labor arbitrator for Motor City Casino in disputes between the casino and its unions. Other prominent clients during his career include the City of Hamtramck, the Hamtramck Housing Commission, SMART, Global Titanium, the City of Hazel Park, the Wayne County Sheriff and the Detroit Baseball Club.

In 1973, Mr. Wax persuaded the Michigan Supreme Court that University of Michigan interns and resident physicians had the right to organize and negotiate labor agreements. He later wrote a detailed account of the case in Labor Relations in Higher Education in a chapter entitled “The Student Employee at the University”
