Tom Cruise Looks for New Pad Post-Divorce

Tom Cruise is reportedly on the hunt for a new home in New York to be closer to 6-year-old daughter Suri.  Cruise currently resides in California but has plans to move closer to his ex-wife Katie Holmes and Suri in Manhattan, NY.

“Tom’s looking for a new home here. He wants a fresh start. He doesn’t want to go back to the East Village apartment where he was living with Katie,” said a source, according to the New York Post. “He’s looking for something that’s very private where he won’t have to deal with going through a lobby, and people outside all the time.”

Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise unexpectedly in June, but what was even more shocking was how quickly the proceedings were finalized.

Cruise received word of Holmes’ plans while on location in Iceland filming his latest move.  What he would soon come to realize was that Holmes had been carefully planning the divorce for quite some time.

Primary child custody was given to Holmes, but Cruise has visitation rights.

Who Does Suri Cruise Want to Live With?

Rumors have been circulating that 6-year-old Suri Cruise would rather live with her dad Tom than mom Katie Holmes, but is there any truth to these speculations?

Tabloids are claiming Tom wooed his daughter after a recent visit by taking her on an expensive getaway that cost around $170,000. Perhaps Suri may have been impressed, but was that elaborate show enough to convince the little girl to live with her dad?

Whether she may want to live with Tom or not, Suri is going to have to deal with the child custody arrangements that were agreed upon in divorce court.

Both Tom and Katie agreed that Katie would have primary custody of Suri, with liberal visitation rights for Tom.

In the meantime, Suri can chat with dad whenever she wants. Phone calls and video chats for both parents are unlimited.

A divorce can be extremely traumatic and emotional, whether the couple agreed to part ways mutually or not. Divorced Kansas Woman Alleges Husband Illegally Took Their Children to Palestine

Wichita, KS- A Kansas woman alleges that her former husband illegally took their children to live in his native country, Gaza, earlier this year and lied to he about his inentions.

Bethany Gonzales married Ahmed Abuhamda when she was sixteen after she converted to Islam. The couple has three children together, ages 9 to 13, and lived primarily in Kansas with brief stints in Gaza.

After the couple decided to have a divorce attorney end their long marriage, their child custody agreement gave primary custody to Ahmed with Bethany having visitation rights. Their divorce decree also gave Ahmed the right to take the children to Gaza, but also stated he had to have his ex-wife’s approval before they were allowed to leave the U.S.

In February of this year, Ahmed used his sister’s wedding to get Bethany’s permission to take the children out of the country. He showed her the children’s return travel itinerary to convince her that they would return, but after the date came and passed she discovered Ahmed intended to stay in Gaza. And found out that he had cleared his apartment of all of his belongings.

He also sent her a text telling her that he and the children were going live in Gaza and would not be returning to Kansas.

Although federal authorities in the U.S. issued a warrant for his arrest, Bethany has little chance of getting her children back, since she has no legal help in the Hamas-controlled country.

Almost any divorce lawyer can affirm that child custody can be the most contentious issue of any divorce, and protecting parental rights is their main concern. Though Bethany’s case is unusual in that it became an international family law issue, many divorced parents see their children moved to different states or cities.

Getting a favorable divorce settlement which dictates how to share custody children is a primary concern for a divorce attorney, who will fight to make sure their clients get the custody and settlement agreement they approve of.

Seal Unhappy with Divorce Petition

Seal and Heidi Klum used to be one of the most seemingly loving couples in Hollywood – “used to” being the operative words. Following what sources claim was overly aggressive behavior on Seal’s behalf, Klum filed for divorce on April 6.

Despite the dissolution of their marriage, the couple appeared to be working things out in an amicable way – until now.  Tensions have been rising regarding asset division and custody arrangements, and it looks as though the divorce proceedings are turning sour.

In regards to the couple’s assets, Klum alleges she and Seal had a postnuptial agreement that called for each party to keep their own assets without splitting community earnings. However, Seal retorts that they had “community and quasi community assets” and he is entitled to his fair share.

In addition, Seal is also frustrated over Klum’s petition for custody.  Seal requested joint legal custody of the couple’s children,  Leni, 7, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2, but Klum is seeking primary physical custody with visitation rights for Seal.

“He’d disappear for weeks and leave her with the kids, without telling her where he was,” claimed a source when asked about why Klum requested primary physical custody. “That’s one reason they’re getting divorced.”

Divorce proceedings often start amiably but can become sour at any given moment. If you have considered divorce, turn to a divorce attorney to ensure proceedings run quickly and smoothly and resolve with the best possible outcome.

Divorce attorneys help split assets and property, determine child custody, child support, alimony, wills and trusts and several other matters. They also serve as mediators to ensure the peace is maintained between you and your spouse so small disagreements don’t get out of hand.

Heidi Klum and Seal’s Custody Battle in Divorce Heats Up

New York, NY- The custody battle in Heidi Klum and Seals divorce is taking a turn and their children are thrust in the middle.

Although, the split between Klum and Seal seemed amicable at first things have heated up since she filed the official divorce papers. Klum and her divorce attorney asked for sole custody of the children, giving Seal visitation rights. The divorce papers also stated that the couple had a postnuptial agreement.

But when Seal filed his divorce papers he asked for joint physical custody of their four children and also said the couple had “community and quasi assets” to divide.

A source close to the couple told Star magazine, “He’s bitter about the break up. Of course he’s trying to get whatever he can out this.” Klum is worth an estimated $70 million while Seal has assets totaling $15 million.

The source added that Seal was a “deadbeat” dad, saying, “He’d disappear for weeks leaving her with the kids, without telling her where he was,” adding, “That’s one reason they’re getting divorced.”

Divorce battles can get heated especially when children are involved. Couples need the skills of a divorce lawyer to help them draft a custody agreement that both parties will find acceptable. If this proves to be impossible, a divorce attorney will be fight to make certain the children are placed with the parent who is most capable parent.

Tensions Rise in Heidi Klum and Seal Divorce

Gone are the days when Heidi Klum and Seal used to be a loving couple. Klum filed for divorce on April 6, but although the pair seemed to have remained amicable, a bitter battle over assets and custody over the couple’s children has ensued.

According to Klum, she and Seal had a postnuptial agreement, allowing each party to keep their own assets without splitting community earnings. However, Seal retaliated, claiming that there are “community and quasi community assets” and also complained about the custody arrangements Klum had devised.

Heidi, 38, is worth an estimated $70 million, while Seal, 49, is only worth about $15 million. It doesn’t come as a surprise then that Seal would try to fight for a little extra pocket change.

But what seems to irk Seal more is the custody arrangement Klum petitioned for. Seal requested joint legal custody of the couple’s children,  Leni, 7, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2. Heidi wants primary physical custody, giving Seal visitation rights.

“He’d disappear for weeks and leave her with the kids, without telling her where he was,” explains a source about why Klum requested primary physical custody. “That’s one reason they’re getting divorced.”

Unfortunately, children get dragged in the middle of many divorces, leaving them to deal with the animosity between their parents and the grief. Seal and Heidi Klum battle over divorce papers

CALIFORNIA – Although Seal and his soon-to-be ex-wife Heidi Klum had agreed to stay friends after their split, it seems as though that plan is about to fail.

Now that Klum has officially filed divorce papers, things are starting to get a lot less friendly between the formerly loving pair.

In response to Klum’s filing, Seal has filed papers of his own. Seal is asking for joint physical and legal custody of their children, while his wife wants sole physical custody with visitation rights and joint custody for Seal.

Klum’s divorce papers mention an agreement between the couple that would protect each other’s assets, but Seal is arguing that there are “quasi-community” assets that he wants split between evenly.

At least they can agree on one thing – alimony. Both Seal and Klum have asked a judge to deny the other spousal support.

Pet Custody Gaining Importance in Divorce Cases

A divorce can lead a couple to fight like cats and dogs, but recently, it seems that couples who are separating are just fighting for their cats and dogs.

Statistics show that the number of divorce cases involving pet custody is rising across the country.

In a 2006 survey by the 1,600-member American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, 25 percent of those surveyed said pet custody cases had increased noticeably since 2001.

Usually, if the couple has children, a divorce judge will have the pet stay with the child. But when there aren’t any kids involved, then things can get messy, and no divorce attorney may be able to mollify the situation.

While pets are considered property in every state, judges are now reviewing pet custody cases a little different. It’s no doubt humans love their furry friends, so, it’s about time they started being recognized as part of the family in the legal eye.

“Judges are viewing them more akin to children than dining room sets. They are recognizing that people have an emotional attachment to their animals,” said Ken Altshuler of Portland, Maine, a divorce attorney and AAML president.

“People are not embarrassed to fight for custody of a pet today. In the past they might have shied away from it because society didn’t really accept a pet as anything other than an accessory to your life,” added Silvana Raso, a family law attorney in New Jersey.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any visitation rights when it comes to pets, so matters are usually left up to the couple or their divorce attorneys. However, there are times in which one spouse may abuse the pet, in which case the other party may take legal action and take on sole custody of the pet.

Ex-Marine attacks wife during divorce hearing

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida – An ex-Marine attacked his wife during a final divorce hearing on Friday morning and is now behind bars.

Bond was set at $1 million on Saturday for Paul Henry Gonzalez, Jr., 28, of Fort Lauderdale after violently attacking his wife in court, causing her to be hospitalized.

Gonzalez split his wife’s lip as well as caused trauma to her head which lead to bruising and swelling. Gonzalez had to be subdued by authorities with a stun gun to get him off of his wife. He is currently being held at the Main Jail on charges of felony battery, domestic violence and resisting arrest without violence.

His wife, Catherine Ann Scott-Gonzalez, 23, also a former Marine, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where she remains in stable condition. She suffered facial fractures, a torn lip and broken nose and will be held in intensive care overnight to monitor for brain trauma.

According to Scott’s divorce lawyer, Michael Dunleavy, the attack was completely “unexpected and surreal.”

“He was punching with a true vengeance. It was vicious,” added Dunleavy, who intervened and held Gonzalez in a bear hug until police arrived. “He was in a rage.”

Gonzalez and Scott were married in 2006 and have a one-year-old daughter together as well as a three-year-old son.

Dunleavy said that Gonzalez (who was not represented by a divorce attorney) did not want to pay child support and wasn’t happy with the judge telling him when he was able to have visitation rights. He stormed out of the chambers but returned, shouting in an angry rage that he would not follow anyone’s orders. He then left the room once more.

Just a moment later, Gonzalez re-entered the chambers and, “without provocation,” began hitting Scott.

Gonzalez grabbed Scott from behind, took her by the neck and hit her repeatedly on the side of her face. After the first blow, Scott was left unconscious. She collapsed in a courtroom clerk’s arms in a pool of blood.

When officers attempted to handcuff Gonzalez, he threw them off until he was eventually pinned down and stunned.

“It was surreal,” Dunleavy said. “To see that violence play out in a judge’s chambers is somewhat surreal.”

Divorces have the power to completely alter a person’s life and sometimes, cause them to go into a fit of rage, like Gonzalez. While sometimes, attacks or escalated aggression cannot be prevented, having an acclaimed divorce lawyer presiding over the case ensures that things are kept as neutral as possible.

Jennifer Jason Leigh has Filed for a Divorce

Celebrity divorces are usually not surprising, although they make good material for the gossip columns, but filing for a divorce just seven months after having a child has made Jennifer Jason Leigh’s divorce case a peculiar one.

Jennifer Jason Leigh is a New Mother

Jennifer Jason Leigh is a new mother of a seven month old child Rohmer, at the age of 48, and she has decided to split with director Noah Baumbach. Jennifer Jason Leigh, with the real name is Jennifer Morrow, is seeking alimony and also the primary custody of her child. Noah is allowed some visitation rights.

Movie Making Accident

Jennifer Jason Leigh and Noah Baumbach had hoped to stay together forever, but then every married couple hopes the same for themselves. Jennifer Jason Leigh has had her share of tragedies as she went through the death of her father recently. He died performing a stunt for a movie.

Easier for Everyone

Divorce lawyers advice people to draw up prenuptial agreements before they get married because it is very useful in the event of a divorce – certainly if there is a celebrity involved or if one side is bringing more assets to the table. Prenuptial agreements state the division of assets and all other details clearly and so divorce lawyers have an easier time for those cases where couples have a prenuptial agreement. Celebrity divorce lawyers make it a point to advise their clients to have a prenuptial agreement since there is a lot of money and property involved in celebrity marriages and break ups.
