A Dallas family is fed up and demanding something be done after their home was hit by not one or two vehicles, but three. On July 1st, the Hernandez family heard a noise that sounded all too familiar and knew what it was the moment they heard it. It was the sound of a vehicle plowing through their home.

According to NBCDFW, the Hernandez’s have been occupying their home now for 33 years. They “picked the modest brick house to raise their five children in” and chose the location based on how close it was to Weiss Park. But, little did the couple know that the home they would be living in would be prone to being hit by speeding and negligent drivers. The family was hit with their first wind of devastation in 2010 when a pickup truck crashed into the home and ended up far inside the dwelling. Another accident occurred again that same year.
After the family was able to recover from the damage those two accidents caused, a third vehicle struck the home at the beginning of the month. This time, it was a drunk driver. The family shared the video surveillance footage that showed the truck driver, who has been identified as 25-year-old Jiret Tovar Alonso, driving down Combs Creek Drive just before he crashed into the home.
The family said that when the truck crashed into their house, it sounded “like a bomb.” The news source went out to interview the homeowner and said the front yard looks as though “a tornado blew through it.” Not only did this accident leave the Hernandez’s laundry room destroyed, but also the car they were going to give their teenager. Ann Hernandez said that she is now looking at thousands of dollars worth of damage and having to start over, again.
While Alonso is facing the consequences for driving drunk as he was charged with DUI, the family has yet to see anything done to help prevent more accidents from occurring. Hernandez told a news reporter with NBCDFW that “drivers often ignore the 25-mile-an-hour speed limit posted around Weiss Park” and that she has already requested that the city add speed bumps to help slow these drivers down. She said that she has “petitioned for speed bumps along Combs Creek Drove, filed the necessary paperwork, gotten required signatures, yet her request continues to be denied.
Now, after this third accident has occurred, hopefully, the city’s council member will be more inclined to approve the request for the speed bumps which will hopefully decrease the chances of this type of incident from ever happening again. However, if the family continues to struggle with getting their request approved, they may want to consider hiring a Dallas, TX car accident lawyer who can take further legal action.
