Sterling Jewelers is facing a major class-action lawsuit involving thousands of employees, some claiming they were sexually harassed.

“Every Kiss Begins with K” is the slogan that represents Kay Jewelers and perhaps it is being taken into literal terms as the parent company, Sterling Jewelers, is being sued for sexual harassment among many other things. According to Business Insider, Sterling Jewelers is being accused of fostering a work environment where sexual harassment and discrimination against women has been and is overlooked. While the company has provided statements claiming these allegations aren’t accurate, there are 1,300 pages of sworn testimony from both current and former employees.

Those who have come forward with these sexual harassment allegations filed a private class-action lawsuit which is a requirement on part of the company in the event a legal issue arises. In some of the statements, the company is being accused of running a “workplace culture that marginalized and objectified women.” While some of the statements have just been brought to light by Akron sexual harassment attorneys, there are accusations from employees from both Kay Jewelers and Jared the Galleria of Jewelry that date back to the 1990’s and 2000’s.

Some of the women have made claims stating that they were “goaded into complying with demands for sexual favors in order to keep their jobs or be considered for pay raises and promotions.” A gender discrimination lawsuit was also filed back in 2008 and since then, nearly 70,000 women have joined the class action lawsuit. Although not all of the women are claiming they were sexually harassed, many have come forward providing statements of exactly what misconduct occurred in their workplace.

According to another claim made, male managers working near the company’s headquarters in Akron, Ohio allegedly would visit stores as “scout parties” looking for female workers to sleep with. With all the claims being thrown around, either the employees of Sterling Jewelers aren’t happy with their salary and have bonded together to file this sexual harassment lawsuit or there is a serious issue occurring in these work locations that needs to be addressed.

What if my boss threatens my job with a sexual demand?

Like many of the testimonies being provided from the women involved in the lawsuit, there are many others who struggle with this issue. Many managers, executives, and others who hold high positions use their managerial role as a way to persuade and even threaten women to engage in sexual activity in order to be promoted, receive a salary increase, or even to keep their job.

Sexual harassment is a serious issue and punishable by law so if you are a victim of it, you are going to want to bring forward your claims and allow an Akron, OH sexual harassment attorney at the Law Offices of F. Benjamin Riek III to protect your rights as an individual and as an employee. These attorneys can help you take legal action and can be reached by calling 330-864-8604.
