A 26-year-old man from Tennessee with being charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident after he allegedly hit a homeless man and continued on driving. Tekleab Bekuretsion was driving along Lafayette Street early one Tuesday morning in July when he struck 35-year-old Timothy Brito. Apparently, he was unaware that he had been involved in an accident which is why he claims he didn’t stop. Police later found Brito lying in the road near First Avenue South.

According to Fox 17 News, Brito had been “carried more than 500 yards before falling to the pavement near I-40.” Medics transported him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition. When police caught up with Bekuretsion along Murfreesboro Pike at Kermit Drive, they said he appeared to be drunk. Police noticed his vehicle had fresh blood on it and that it clearly showed signs of being involved in a wreck. He was also driving with his headlights off. But, according to Bekuretsion, he was unaware that any accident had occurred.

Bekuretsion was detained by police and his bond was set at $4,500. He has since been released from jail and will likely be back in court to find out if he is being convicted of the charges. In the meantime, it would be in his best interest to hire a Nashville, TN DUI defense attorney to provide him with the legal representation that he is going to need as he was suspected of driving drunk, injured a pedestrian, and then fled the scene of an accident. As for Brito, he may want to consider speaking with a drunk driving accident lawyer in Nashville, TN as he may be entitled to compensation for the severe injuries he sustained.
