Life is full of trials and tribulations, but most can agree that losing a loved one is the ultimate hurdle to overcome. One family is likely now experiencing just how difficult this is after an accident involving a car and tow truck transpired on Interstate 95 recently.

It was May 16th, around 1:00 a.m. when three individuals traveling in a Ford Focus on I-95 in Broward County began experiencing car trouble. As a result, the driver pulled the vehicle off to the right shoulder and the occupants waited for a tow truck to arrive. Among the three individuals who were waiting, one was identified as 63-year-old Juan Pedro Garcia. Eventually, Robby Sternberg arrived and began to load the Focus onto the tow truck. Unfortunately, Bradley Ruben of Hollywood, FL came up from behind and crashed into the back of the tow truck with his Volkswagen.
The Miami Herald reported on the incident and stated that the impact knocked the Ford into Garcia. Garcia was thrown to the ground, suffering from the severe injuries he had sustained. Ruben, however, took off on foot and attempted to flee the scene of the truck collision. Broward Sheriff deputies eventually caught up with Ruben, took him into custody, and transported him to Broward Health North where he received treatment for his minor injuries. Emergency medical personnel transported Garcia to an area hospital, but shortly after his arrival, he was pronounced dead.
Ruben was later arrested and booked into Broward County Jail. The source highlighted that he admitted to taking a marijuana edible prior to getting behind the wheel which is what affected his ability to drive. A judge set his bond at $100,100 on charges of failing to stop at an accident involving death and resisting an officer. Apparently, this wasn’t Ruben’s first traffic-related offense. His driving history revealed that he has had six traffic violation convictions in the past. The most recent one was from October for disobeying a red flashing signal.

And apparently, he hasn’t yet paid the $185.00 fine for that violation.

If a close family member has been killed in a truck collision in Fort Lauderdale, consider speaking with an attorney who can inform you on how you can file a wrongful death lawsuit.
Ruben’s driving record also indicated that he made an improper U-turn in 2015 and was cited for that. Back in August 2012, he was fined for careless driving and disobeying a traffic sign. A few years prior, he also was fined for speeding on two separate occasions. Given Ruben’s long list of traffic offenses, he might want to consider hiring a criminal defense lawyer to represent him in this case as he could be facing much harsher penalties than a small fine.
As for the family of the deceased Garcia, the news source has not commented on who he left behind or whether the family is planning on taking legal action against Ruben. However, it is important for anyone who has lost someone they love in a truck collision to understand what their rights are and what forms of actions can be taken. And a professional who is most qualified to provide this information is a Fort Lauderdale truck accident lawyer. The fact is, anytime someone is killed in a crash, whether it involves a bus, truck, or another passenger vehicle, they may be able to recover compensation that will cover unexpected costs, including medical bills.
