Fans headed to the Kentucky Derby were involved in a multiple-vehicle accident that resulted in one man’s death.
 
The Kentucky Derby was recently held on May 4thand 5thand many who were planning on attending the event were faced with some unfortunate circumstances after their buses were involved in a wreck. Bleacher Report covered the accident, sharing details as to what exactly happened in Louisville. Apparently, the bus that was headed to Churchill Downs was clipped by a blue passenger vehicle which caused it to spin out of control followed by a chain reaction of accidents to occur. The source said five vehicles in total were involved in the accident.
Among the vehicles that were involved was a Miller Transportation bus that was also carrying several passengers who were headed to the Kentucky Derby. The driver of this bus swerved the vehicle out of the way to avoid hitting another car heading in the opposite direction and ended up hitting a pedestrian. Officials have not yet released the victim’s name, however, they did confirm he was in his 60’s. The man was hit nearby to 7th Street and Arcade Street and sadly, he died at the scene of the incident.
Wand TV reported that the driver of the blue car was transported to the hospital for treatment after first responders used the jaws of life to free him from his vehicle. The source did say he was alert and talking after the accident. Two of the other vehicles that were involved also sustained damage, however, Shively Police Lt. Col. Josh Myers stated that “today is a day the city shines. And there’s a lot of people in from out of town, but unfortunately, these kinds of things happen.”
A spokesperson for Milller Transportation also spoke out and stated, “We wish to express our sorrow and sympathy to the families impacted by this accident. Miller Transportation places the safe transportation of our customers as well as those we share the road with as our number one priority.”
