The death of 20-year-old rapper XXXTentacion, whose real name is Jahseh Dwyane Onfroy, has taken many by surprise. According to some, his death occurred after an attempted robbery failed, however, the Broward County Sheriff’s Department is still in search of potential suspects and clues that can help solve this case. But they aren’t the only ones seeking answers. From fans to friends, many people have begun to scour the internet searching for any evidence they can find that might help connect someone to the untimely death of this talented star. Unfortunately, it appears some false accusations have already been made based on some of the information that has already surfaced.
According to the News-Press, a false report was posted via Instagram that listed the address of a home where the killer of XXX lived, which happened to be in Cape Coral, located just minutes away from Fort Myers. It turns out, while Cape Coral police did make an arrest after the accusations surfaced and information regarding a specific address was released, it wasn’t because the man was linked to the killing of the rapper. Apparently, Jesse Gonzalez, 20, of Cape Coral had been accused of loitering and prowling around a residence located inside a gated community, the same residence that was listed as the home where the killer of XXX allegedly lived.
After the address was released, many fans and friends said they were going to come to that location. Prior to his arrest, Gonzalez had been inside the gated community where that home was located asking people if he could use their cellphone as he was “looking for someone who killed his friend,” his friend being XXX. And the day before this, officers had received a call from residents in the same gated community saying that a man entered the community attempting to deliver a pizza. He arrived at a home and when the family living there confirmed they hadn’t ordered a pizza, the man, who was said to be Gonzalez, sat in their driveway for several minutes and then finally left. The family then received a phone call from an unknown person who informed them that their name, phone numbers, and address was posted on Instagram and that there was a murder at their home.
After police checked out the residence after having received several calls of a suspicious man loitering in the area, they determined that the only people living there was a couple in their 70’s. Police eventually arrested Gonzalez after determining he was in a gated community that he had no business being in and recognizing him from his social media posts where he was using a cellphone. Police found it strange that a man who they had seen via social media had a functional phone but was asking neighbors in the community to borrow theirs claiming he was looking for the person who had killed his friend. And apparently, Gonzalez played a role in the posting of the Cape Coral address that had no connection with the rapper’s death.
Although the internet can be very helpful, it can also lead people to believe things that simply aren’t true. And that, in turn, can cause individuals to be falsely accused and even arrested for something they didn’t do. While Gonzalez was guilty of loitering and prowling, the couple that lived inside the home of the gated community whose address was posted online appears to have no connection with the killing of XXXTentacion, yet their information was made available to many.
