Without any vaccine available to stop Covid-19 (coronavirus), the virus is rampantly spreading across the globe. Fox News recently reported that cases in China and other countries are spiking, causing fear to spread amongst everyone. On Monday, China reported 409 new cases of the virus, which increases its total number of infected to 77,150, reports Fox News. The country also reported that another 150 deaths were recorded in the mainland which brings the country’s death toll to 2,592.

The news source said that more cases have also been recorded in South Korea. On Monday, the number of infected individuals rose by 763. The country only had 28 confirmed cases as of February 14th. The news source said that more than 140 of the new coronavirus cases in South Korea were from Daegu, which has a population of 2.5 million people. During a briefing, South Korean Vice Health Minister Kim Gang-lip said that “In Daegu, “the number of new cases that are being confirmed by tests is quite large, and if we fail to effectively stem community transmissions in this area, there would be a large possibility (that the illness) spreads nationwide.”

Gang-lip also said that health officials would be testing all of the residents that exhibit cold-like symptoms, which could be somewhere around 28,000 people to help reduce the chances of the virus spreading even further. The news source said that 129 of the new cases that have developed may be connected to the Shincheonji Church of Jesus where a woman who later tested positive for the virus attended a few church services.

Other cases of the coronavirus have also been confirmed in Italy, Israel, Iran, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. As a result of the rapidly spreading virus, many countries have begun to close their borders to countries like Iran and China that have reported a high infection rate.

How many cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in the U.S. as of now?

With Covid-19 reaching more than a dozen countries, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning that the coronavirus is likely to spread here in the U.S. Last week, there were only 15 confirmed cases in the U.S., however, that number has since increased. The CDC says that there are now at least 35 people in the U.S. who have been infected with the virus. Among the 35 confirmed cases, 14 were travelers that returned from a trip abroad, says USA Today.

Health experts are now warning that the coronavirus is a worldwide threat and the World Health Organization (WHO) cautioned that “the window of opportunity is narrowing” for containing the outbreak worldwide.” While countries are taking steps to help contain the virus, it appears their efforts aren’t enough as each day, the number of confirmed cases continues to rise.
