It was September 2016 when Randall Ryan, 52, was riding in the front passenger seat of a Chevrolet truck being operated by John Lagana. As the two men were traveling westbound on Fairfield Avenue near the intersection of Brewster Street, the truck collided with a Ford truck heading eastbound that was owned by United Site Services Northeast. United Site Services Northeast is a portable restroom rental company, according to the CT Post. The Ford, which was being operated by Lavaughne Scales, happened to be transporting portable restrooms at the time of the collision.
As a result of the two trucks colliding, Ryan claimed he suffered a broken nose as well as injuries to his head, neck, ribs, shoulder, and back due to the carelessness and negligence he believes was displayed by both Lagana and Scales. Ryan elected to hire a Connecticut truck accident lawyer and sued both men. His complaint highlighted that “he suffered physical and emotional injuries and has been unable to perform activities of daily living.”
Although the truck accident occurred back in 2016, it wasn’t until recently that Ryan was awarded a settlement of $82,000 for the injuries he sustained in the crash.

While some truck accident victims survive the crash like Ryan and can pursue damages by filing a personal injury lawsuit, others aren’t as lucky.

Just a few hours ago, NBC Connecticut reported that a motorcycle and a dump truck collided in Enfield, CT, yesterday resulting in the motorcyclist’s death. The source stated that 63-year-old Frank Caravello was heading south on Depot Hill Road when it collided with a dump truck that was also heading south. The collision occurred around 2:15 p.m. and Caravello was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford where he was pronounced dead. The dump truck driver was fortunate enough to not have sustained any injuries.
Officials are currently investigating the incident to determine what caused the two to collide. If it is determined that the truck driver displayed signs of negligence or carelessness, the company and/or the driver could face legal ramifications in the event the surviving family of Caravello decides to take action.
If you wish to learn what your rights are as a victim of a truck collision in Connecticut, consult with a truck accident lawyer as soon as possible.
The fact is, most truck accidents can be prevented which generally means one person engaged in some sort of behavior that contributed to causing the crash. And when this can be proven, the victim is often entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit where they can demand compensation be paid for the various types of suffering they have had to endure. Now, in the event a person is killed in a truck collision caused by a reckless driver, their surviving family is also entitled to take the same form of legal action but instead, they would file a wrongful death lawsuit through the CT court system.

Unfortunately, many accident victims forgo their chance to collect this compensation as they fail to retain a truck accident lawyer who can help them fight for it.
