MICHAEL HINGLE, a native of Louisiana, graduated second in his class from Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans, LA in 1973. He graduated first in his graduating class at Louisiana State University for his undergraduate degree. He was associated with several law firms in the New Orleans area. He did not feel comfortable working for insurance defense firms because of his number two ranking at Tulane University School of Law, he was much sought after by the insurance defense firms. Being a south Louisiana raised boy whose father worked in the oil field all of his life, he was just not interested in paying injured people the least amount the insurance company could get away with. His father had told him horror stories of people hurt on the job or victims in other types of accidents. Horror stories as to how bad they were treated, horror stories as to how little they got to rebuild their lives.
It was not until 1977 that he moved to Slidell, LA across Lake Pontchartrain. Slidell was about a 30-minute drive from downtown New Orleans. Slidell was where he opened his first practice. Over 43 years later, Mr. Hingle has grown to eleven offices throughout southern Louisiana and south Mississippi. The firm has a large group of attorneys. One of the attorneys associated with the firm is also a licensed Mississippi attorney. All attorneys with the firm are admitted to the Louisiana Bar Association. Michael Hingle is also a Certified Public Accountant. He does not practice accounting, restricting his work to personal injury claims of injured victims. Trucking insurance companies and insurance companies in general pay nickels and dimes to settle claims. They take advantage of injured people who may not be able to work at that particular time. They take advantage of people who need medical treatment and/or testing and/or surgery.
He has concentrated his practice on personal injury, with an emphasis on 18-wheeler, commercial vehicle accidents, car accident, falls and traumatic brain injuries.
He also includes in his practice injuries occurring on-the-job (Workers’ Compensation) offshore and on oil rigs. Over the past 10 years, he has added Multi-District Litigation to his practice. Multi-District Litigation is where thousands of people file a lawsuit. These thousands of lawsuits are combined in front of one judge. That’s why it is called Multi-District Litigation. It generally applies to drugs and medical device(s) defects.
Michael Hingle is on a long list of Multi-District Litigation, including Vioxx, Avandia, Celebrex, Bextra, Medtronics, Guidant, Toyota, Depuy Hip Defects, Darvocet, Transvaginal Mesh, Testastarone, Bair Hugger, Taxotere, Nexium.
Hingle belongs to the LA State Bar Association, American Association of Justice, Tulane Law Review, Tulane Moot Court Team, National Board of Trial Advocacy accredited by the American Bar Association, Public Justice Foundation, Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America (APITLA) and Traumatic Brain Injury Group.
He was the recipient of the very high distinction of the Order of the Coif when he graduated from Tulane Law School. He was also elected to the Tulane Law Review. This is a very prestigious honor for the top of the class. He wrote and published an article in the Tulane Law Review. He is admitted to practice in Louisiana and all districts of the United States Federal Courts in Louisiana.
