Hattiesburg area attorney Tangi Carter takes the law very seriously. As a former Federal and State Public Defender, she came to understand, first-hand, the way that the criminal justice system and individual social and economic conditions could combine to either help or hinder people. She understood that, coming into the criminal justice system, people were not treated the same and that it was her job as an attorney to help balance those scales, so that each of her clients could get justice.
TangiÍs legal experience spans the entire criminal law range. She has practical experience in all stages of a criminal trial: bail hearings, arraignments, docket calls, motion hearings, please, trial, sentencings, and probation violations. In addition to her experience as a public defender, Tangi worked for a DUI defense firm in Northwest Florida and was a staff attorney and court administrator for Judge Prentiss G. Harrell for three years, where she had the opportunity to work closely with his Drug Court program. Her criminal defense experience led naturally into personal injury law, as many criminal acts result in harms to others.
Tangi is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a member of the South Central Mississippi Bar Association, a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel, a member of the National College of DUI Defense Lawyers. She is also a former member of the Inns of Court and the former President of the Society of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Tangi also taught in the Legal Studies Department at Pensacola Jr. College.
