Josh A. Howard is a trial and appellate attorney, practicing in South FloridaÍs tri-county area (Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties). Mr. HowardÍs practice focuses primarily on criminal defense work, representing adults and juveniles charged with misdemeanors, felonies, domestic-violence crimes, and both criminal traffic and traffic-citation matters. Mr. Howard attended the State of FloridaÍs first law school, and the NationÍs preeminent law school for trial lawyers, Stetson University College of Law, which is consistently ranked number one among law schools in the United States for trial advocacy, and number two for legal writing, by U.S. News & World Report. While at Stetson, Mr. Howard was a member of StetsonÍs prestigious Moot Court Board, was awarded the William F. Blews Pro Bono Service Award and interned for The Honorable Robert A. Foster in the circuit court for FloridaÍs Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Tampa, Florida.
After graduating from StetsonÍs Honors Program in 2009, Mr. Howard joined the law firm of Rahdert, Steele, Reynolds & Driscoll in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he handled general civil litigation matters, and assisted the firm in its representation of the The St. Petersburg Times (now, The Tampa Bay Times), the highest-circulated newspaper in the State of Florida and winner of 10 Pulitzer Prize awards, on business matters and free-press legal issues. Upon returning to South Florida, Mr. Howard was awarded a clerkship at The Fourth District Court of Appeal, one of FloridaÍs five intermediate appellate courts, which handles all of the civil and criminal circuit court appeals from Broward and Palm Beach Counties. While at the Fourth District, Mr. Howard served as one of two judicial law clerks to The Honorable Mark E. Polen, where he advised numerous appellate judges on how cases before the court should be decided and drafted final legal opinions for the court.
In 2012, Mr. Howard left The Fourth District Court of Appeal and joined the Law Office of the Public Defender for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of Florida (Broward County). Mr. Howard began his tenure at the office in the juvenile courts and was quickly promoted to felony trial work. In 2013, and in his first three jury trials ever, Mr. Howard was awarded the coveted Felony ñHat Trick Awardî by the Broward County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (BACDL) for ñNot Guiltyî verdicts in three-consecutive felony jury trials. Mr. Howard then accepted an offer from the Law Office of the Public Defender for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit (Miami-Dade County), where he primarily focused on DUI/DWI work and other criminal-traffic related matters.
In 2015, Mr. Howard left public-service work and started his own law firm. Mr. Howard has extensive criminal-trial and criminal-appellate experience in the county, circuit and appellate courts of Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties.
