Woman Burns Wedding Dress After Her Long, Dreadful Divorce is Finalized

If you are recently divorced or are going through the process, how did you or do you plan to celebrate when it is done and over with? When you sign those last few documents that finalize it all, what do you think you might do? Go out with friends, quietly bask in the excitement now that all the stress and frustration is finally done and over with? While you likely have your own plan cooked up in your mind on what you will do once your divorce is finalized, one woman had her very own plan that has caught the attention of NBC New York and many other news source sites.

Briana Barksdale’s divorce was finalized on January 31, 2018, and February marked the beginning of a new year for her. She decided to show the world exactly how she felt now that her divorce was finalized and she was free from a marriage she spent far too much time in. Barksdale began the celebration by holding a garage sale where she sold possessions that belonged to her ex-husband which were awarded to her in the divorce. She listed the sale on Craigslist detailing it as a “Divorce garage sale- Get him out of my life.” She also included in the description of the sale posting that her divorce was from a “worthless, cheating, abusive husband.” She even advertised that she would be giving out mimosas and doughnuts and that those who showed up could even help burn pictures.

Once Barksdale’s divorce was finalized, she freed herself from all the possessions that once belonged to her and her ex-husband and sold them all at a garage sale.

On the day of the garage sale, many women who also experienced similar struggles as Barksdale, came out to support. It was reported that nearly 1,000 people showed up and the sale made Barksdale $3,000 richer. Her ad, which has since been taken down from the site, was screenshotted by many and shared on social media. And it has now become a trending story online. However, that wasn’t the only thing Barksdale did to show how thrilled she was to no longer be tied to this man who is now serving seven years of probation and community service after pleading guilty to assault of a family member.

Aside from selling all the possessions that belonged to her ex-husband and those they acquired together, she also had people sign her wedding dress and then burned it. After going through such a difficult marriage with a man who was abusive and unfaithful, she can now breathe a sigh of relief that it is all over and she can now move on with her life.

The fact is, many divorces arise because of things like abuse and infidelity, and once a person takes that step to ending their unhealthy relationship, they can focus more on what is important, their life.
