Fargo, ND Father Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison for DUI Accident that Killed His Son
A Fargo, ND father is facing 14 years in prison for the fatal drunk driving accident he caused back in 2019. On January 27, 2020, Christopher Devine received his sentence from a Cass County judge that included 10 years in prison for the death of his 7-year-old son and two years each for injuring his other son along with one other occupant that was inside the vehicle with him. Inforum reported that the drunk driving accident happened after Devine had a few whiskey shots which quickly brought his blood alcohol concentration level (BAC) level up to 0.267%, which is more than three times the legal limit to drive.
The source says that Devine lost control of his vehicle while driving at around 75 mph in Fargo. As a result, the rear passenger side of his vehicle collided with another vehicle in oncoming traffic. The incident happened in the 1300 block of South University Drive. While Devine did suffer serious injuries from the collision, his two sons were left fighting for their lives in the same hospital he was being treated in. Sadly, his son Jason passed away from his injuries while his other son, Brandon survived. Brandon’s mother says that although he lived, she expects that he will suffer from long-term physical impacts from the accident.
After the tragic crash, Devine plead guilty to criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular injury. During the court proceedings, Devine could be seen sitting with his face buried in his hands. While Devine chose not to address the court, he did have his attorney read a letter apologizing for his actions that said “[He] failed as a father.” His ND drunk driving accident lawyer also said that her client had mentioned several times before that he would “do anything to trade places with Jason.”
