Florida, I-95 Collision Leaves 3 Dead and Two Severely Injured

As the state of Florida continues to relax COVID-19 restrictions, more and more individuals find themselves out and about and traveling on the roadways. Unfortunately, this has caused an increase in car accidents. On April 25th, the Sun-Sentinel reported on a fiery accident that claimed the lives of three individuals. The accident occurred on I-95, leaving the interstate shut down for more than six hours.

The source says that the incident happened at around 3:23 a.m. just north of the Griffin Road exit. A disabled SUV that was involved in the wreck had already been involved in an accident and was positioned sideways across two lanes of I-95 facing east. The driver of the SUV along with one of two passengers had gotten out of the vehicle. The news source says that a car heading south was approaching the disabled vehicle and was unable to stop or swerve in time to avoid hitting the SUV. The car ended up T-boning the driver’s side and both vehicles burst into flames.

Officials said that the vehicles were so badly burnt that it made it extremely difficult for investigators to identify the make and model of each vehicle.

The source reported that the driver of the SUV, who was identified as a 26-year-old woman from Fort Lauderdale, along with the passenger who had gotten out of the vehicle with her, suffered serious injuries and required immediate medical attention. The passenger who had remained inside the SUV died at the scene of the accident. A 35-year-old male and 25-year-old male who had been occupying the car that collided into the SUV both died as well. The Florida Highway Patrol has not released any names as of yet “citing state privacy laws,” says the Sun-Sentinel.

FHP is investigating the collision to determine who was at fault.
