The Modesto law office of Brunn & Flynn was founded in 1963 by attorney Charles K. Brunn to serve businesses and individuals locally and statewide in the areas of business and corporate law, civil litigation, estate planning, personal injury, and family law. The firm offers professional advice and counsel and actively engages in mediation, arbitration, and litigation in state, federal, and appellate courts throughout California. In addition, the firm serves as approved counsel for insurance carriers, self-insured companies, and governmental entities.
Brunn & Flynn has been recognized for its excellence in legal ability, ethics and professionalism, by receiving Martindale-Hubbell's highest rating of AV-Preeminent. Many of the firm's attorneys have also achieved the AV rating, but all of the firm's six attorneys and staff of paralegals, law clerks, and support personnel are dedicated to excellence in the practice of law.
With more than 50 years of service, the firm has represented countless individuals and entities in need of legal assistance throughout the state. Some of the firm's more notable cases include:
Successfully representing Mariposa County in a highly-publicized 1985 case involving a fatal accident between a car driven by a county sheriff's deputy and a vehicle driven by a federal secret service agent. The agent had been assigned to escort Queen Elizabeth II on a scheduled visit to Yosemite National Park.
Successfully representing Merced County in an action brought by the family of Steven Stayner, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1989. Mr. Stayner's family was represented by renowned San Francisco attorney, Melvin Belli. The case received national attention because Mr. Stayner was the victim of a kidnapping when he was seven years old and was not reunited with his family until shortly before his untimely death. Mr. Stayner's abduction and return was the subject of intense media coverage and a television movie. In addition, Mr. Stayner's uncle was shot to death in his home in 1990. The multiple tragedies garnered widespread public sympathy, which made a jury trial risky for the county. Our firm negotiated a settlement between the Stayner family and Merced County to the satisfaction of all concerned, and without a costly court battle.
Representing the family of a victim of the October 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake against the State of California. The case was settled in less than one year with the family receiving a very satisfactory settlement.
Representing a group of citizens who were stymied in their efforts to place an initiative on the Stanislaus County ballot. Brunn & Flynn successfully argued at both the Superior Court and Appellate Court levels that the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors acted illegally in refusing to place the measure on the ballot. Ultimately, the initiative appeared on the ballot, and the democratic process was allowed to proceed.
Successfully arguing a published appellate case setting forth the "Single Unit Rule" holding that the respective carriers of a tractor and trailer each insure the other. Priority of coverage would depend on the insurance code. Mission Insurance Company, et al. vs. Hartford Insurance Company, et al. (1984).
Successfully arguing a published appellate case in which the Court of Appeals limited the conditions under which an employee may claim rehabilitation workers' compensation benefits. Save Mart Stores vs. Workers' Compensation Appeals Board and Julie Gwin (1992).
Put over 50 years of experience and results to work for you.
