Cofer Luster Law Firm PC Investigates, Negotiates, And Tries Cases With A Relentless Commitment To Results. Prepared and Practiced, That Is How Our Trial Lawyers Enter The Courtroom.
Our law firm deals with the issues surrounding an arrest, a criminal investigation, criminal charges, sentencing, appeals, and post-trial matters. The Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) does not recognize “specialization” in a niche within criminal defense beyond two certifications: criminal law and criminal appeals. Cody Cofer is Board Certified by TBLS in Criminal Law. This means he is considered an “expert” by TBLS and the Texas State Bar.
An arrest just means a police officer, federal agent, or judge believes probable cause exists that a specific person committed a crime. Since an arrest is usually made by law enforcement (police), an arrest for a state charge is for a criminal charge for which the allegations have not been reviewed by an attorney or judge. In federal cases, the facts have usually been reviewed by an Assistant United States Attorney, a magistrate judge, or a Grand Jury. Regardless, just because you are arrested, does not mean you are guilty and you should not be treated like you are guilty.
As criminal defense lawyers we also deal with the substantive issues of the crimes with which our clients are charged. Sometimes we help clients before charges have been filed by a prosecuting attorney. This is done when you believes you are being investigated or you have been arrested.
Many people retain our firm to help with counsel and representation dealing with police or other investigators, perform our own investigation, and at times present exculpatory evidence that negates potential charges by police or prosecutors.
