ABOUT Furey, Doolan & Abell, LLP

In 1975, three prominent lawyers formed Furey, Doolan & Abell, LLP in Montgomery County, Maryland. Mr. Devin John Doolan had just completed serving a four-year term in the Maryland General Assembly. Mr. W. Shepherdson ("Shep") Abell had previously served as Executive Assistant to the Lieutenant Governor of Maryland and was completing a term as a cabinet secretary. Together, they joined the late Mr. E. William Furey to form a law firm that now numbers 24 lawyers.

Clients of the firm include individuals seeking personal asset strategies; companies seeking pragmatic, sensible advice and advocacy; and associations or other organizations that seek technical competence and industry experience.

We are distinguished by the following commitments:

Commitment to client service

First and foremost we are committed to serving our clients in the manner they prescribe. We are responsive and accessible, and offer a true partnership with our clients. We keep our clients promptly and thoroughly informed of work in progress as well as legal and industry developments that affect them.

Commitment to community identity and involvement

All three of our named partners have served by gubernatorial appointment on various state commissions and task forces. Many of our lawyers have performed judicial clerkships. Our attorneys are also involved in civic and charitable organizations so they can give back to the communities from which they enjoy their livelihood.

Commitment to strict ethical standards

Ethical matters are of paramount importance to the firm. As examples, Mr. W. Shepherdson Abell is an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law Center where he has taught professional ethics. Ms. Elsie Reid has served over 25 years as a Chair of the Character Committee of the Maryland Court of Appeals for Bar admissions. We demand strict adherence to the highest ethical standards in our practices.

Commitment to continuing education

We recognize that it is important to continuously refresh our knowledge base and to keep on top of developments in the law and in the industries we serve. We do so by participating, and in many instances leading, continuing education programs and courses. We also attend appropriate industry conferences and seminars.

Commitment to technological advancement

So that we may always provide the most cost effective service possible to our clients, we investigate and utilize appropriate technology for communications and the delivery of legal services.
