ABOUT Keough & Moody

Keough & Moody, P.C. is a Chicago and Naperville based law firm providing full-service representation to condominium, townhome and homeowners’ associations, not-for-profit corporations, businesses, and financial institutions.

Keough & Moody, P.C. originally started as Knuckles & Jagel in 1993 practicing community association law. In 1995, the firm prevailed in a precedential Second District Appellate Court opinion in Maercker Point Villas Ass’n v. Szymski, 275 Ill. App. 3d 481, 655 N.E.2d 1192, 211 Ill. Dec. 809 (2d Dist. 1995). In its opinion, the appellate court confirmed that a condominium developer had a common-law duty to fund a reserve account and that such duty began when the declaration was recorded.

Gabriella Comstock and Shannon Schwarzwalder (business manager) joined the firm in 1996 followed by Chuck Keough in 1998. In 1999, the firm argued Seven Bridges Courts Ass’n v. Seven Bridges Development, Inc., 306 Ill. App. 3d 697, 714 N.E.2d 601, 239 Ill. Dec. 682 (2d Dist. 1999). In that case, the Second District Appellate Court upheld language drafted by a developer in its declaration which exculpated the developer from contributing to a reserve account.

In 2000, Dawn Moody joined the firm while a student at North Central College, continued law school, and never left.

After a few brief years as Knuckles & Associates, then later as Knuckles, Keough & Moody, the firm renamed itself Keough & Moody, P.C. in 2008. For more than twenty years, the firm and its clients have enjoyed continuity by maintaining its core team of Chuck, Dawn, Gabby and Shannon.

In June 2018, the firm added the talented attorneys from Penland and Hartwell, LLC. David Hartwell and Karen Beverly brought with them decades of experience which significantly contributed to our clients’ success..
