ABOUT Marks Clare & Richards LLC

Because We've Been Down This Road Before.

In 1951, Ephraim Marks, a dynamic and successful trial attorney, partnered with Truman Clare, who, although at the time, a recent graduate of Creighton Law School, had previous accounting experience. Mr. Clare developed a very successful tax and estate planning practice. Later, Wallace Hopkins, now retired, joined the firm.

Through the years, the other lawyers joined Marks & Clare, including present members of the firm, Elizabeth Borchers, Dirk V. Block, and Raymond Aranza.

The firm was engaged in the general practice of law, and specialized in tax, estate planning, divorce, workers' compensation, and personal injury litigation.

In 1948, after graduating Creighton Law, Yale Richards joined the firm of Beber & Klutznick, established in the early 1930's. Phil Klutznick established the constitutionality of public housing in Nebraska and later served as United States Secretary of Commerce. The library at Creighton Law School is in his name. Yale Richards developed a very successful practice in real estate law and estate planning. In the early 1950's, the firm name was changed to Beber & Richards.

Steven J. Riekes, now a present member, joined Beber & Richards in 1965. In the early 1970's, the firm became Richards, Riekes & Zabin. Later, David P. Wilson, also a present member, joined that firm. The firm engaged in the general practice of law, and specialized in tax, corporate, commercial, and real estate law, estate planning, and public housing.

In 1994, the two law firms merged and changed the name to Marks Clare & Richards, LLC. The firm continues the general practice of law, including the various specializations of each of the previous firms now merged. Also continued is the significant involvement of the firm members in civic, charitable, and religious causes.

Marks Clare & Richards was the first law firm to be recognized by the Nebraska State Bar Association for its pro bono work. It received the honored Robert M. Spire Award named after a very distinguished former Nebraska Attorney General.
