ABOUT Schlam Stone & Dolan LLP

Schlam Stone & Dolan LLP was founded in 1981 by Harvey Stone, Richard Dolan and the late Peter Schlam, three veterans of the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York, where Mr. Schlam was Executive Assistant United States Attorney and Mr. Stone was Chief of the Appeals Division. We represent clients-ranging from Fortune 500 companies to high net worth individuals and small businesses-in all aspects of sophisticated civil and criminal litigation and arbitration, as well as in negotiating and structuring commercial transactions.

Our experienced and talented attorneys provide the highest quality of legal representation, and because of our sensitivity to costs we obtain the best results in the most efficient manner possible. We draw our attorneys from the criminal and civil divisions of the United States Attorney's Offices in New York City, as well as New York's most prominent large law firms, such as Cravath Swaine & Moore, Sullivan & Cromwell and Simpson Thacher. Because we have very little turnover among our attorneys our clients can expect that every case will be staffed by the same seasoned attorneys from inception to conclusion. Our lawyers include a former state court judge, United States Attorney and high-ranking Justice Department official, many former federal prosecutors with major supervisory positions, former law clerks to federal judges, and columnists for the New York Law Journal.

Schlam Stone & Dolan's legal expertise and approach to advocacy has earned it a widespread reputation for quality in a variety of legal fields. For example, in recent years our firm represented the Governor of the State of New York in New York's well-publicized judicial pay cases from the trial-court level to the New York Court of Appeals. At the same time, our attorneys have been recognized as some of New York's premier litigators handling business and partnership break-ups. Our attorneys are also recognized for their extensive experience in trials, hearings and arbitrations.

Since 1981, our litigation practice has grown from the three founders to today's twenty-one experienced litigators. In 2007 we added three transactional attorneys-including Senior Partner Wayne Baden-who focus on structuring investment vehicles to purchase and operate ground transportation companies, financial institutions and other businesses.

Our litigation practice is focused on complex commercial disputes and covers a broad array of subject matters, including complex commercial matters, corporate governance, antitrust, securities, real estate, telecommunications, intellectual property, Internet, employment, RICO, bankruptcy, tax, sports and entertainment, white-collar criminal defense, and civil and criminal appeals. We often work with other firms as part of a team representing a company and its officers, directors and employees.

Our transactional practice is focused on negotiating and structuring transactions for various businesses, including mergers and acquisitions for closely-held companies and the corporate, financial, insurance, franchising and regulatory aspects of the ground transportation industry. In addition, we provide corporate counseling to select clients, and serve as general counsel to several large closely-held companies.
