Mr. Shelton was born on the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut. Spending his childhood in West Central Florida, he later moved to the Southwest and received his undergraduate education at Arizona State University. After graduating with honors with a degree in interdisciplinary justice studies, Mr. Shelton became a licensed property and casualty agent and later worked as an adjuster for one of the largest automobile insurance companies in the nation. In 1999, Mr. Shelton returned to Florida to pursue his law degree at the Florida State University College of Law. During law school, he was a member of the Journal of Transnational Law and Policy where he served as both Technical Editor and Writing and Research Editor.
Mr. Shelton began his career with the law firm of Butler Burnette Pappas and was later recruited by Florida's then largest law firm – Fowler White Boggs Banker, P.A. When Fowler White Boggs Banker split in 2008, Mr. Shelton was invited to join his colleagues to form a new firm--Banker Lopez Gassler --and became partner that same year. While providing defense to some of the firm’s largest clients, Mr. Shelton was later asked to serve as a liaison to the Board of Directors and would ultimately develop one of the largest practice groups within the firm. Mr. Shelton is a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer-- a prestigious recognition attained by less than 2% of all Florida attorneys.
After gaining experience with three prominent large law firms in insurance defense, Mr. Shelton founded the law firm of Shelton | McKean to build a new brand of law firm with technological innovations designed specifically for providing high quality legal services to clients.
