Passionate about serving the community and defending victims of company mishaps, Ashleigh Aitken is Of Counsel at Aitken Aitken Cohn. A graduate of USC Law School, Ashleigh is a former federal prosecutor, practicing in the Los Angeles and Santa Ana Office of the United States Attorney in the Central District of California. While serving as an Assistant United States Attorney, Ashleigh prosecuted cases involving armed bank robbery, narcotics, mail and wire fraud, child pornography and firearms violations. She has tried several criminal cases and argued before the 9th Circuit.
Prior to becoming a prosecutor, Ashleigh was a civil litigator with the law firm of Morrison Foerster, LLP, specializing in complex business litigation and class action defense. She began her practice at Nossaman, Guthner, Knox & Elliott, LLP working on environmental and condemnation litigation.
Today, Ashleigh is a recognized trial lawyer and was President of the Orange County Bar Association in 2015. She has also been honored as “Attorney of the Year” by Orange County Women Lawyers, “Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers Magazine and “Attorney of the Month” by Orange County Attorney Journal. She is a regular speaker on continuing legal education panels, and her publications include her monthly column in Orange County Lawyer, Bringing it Home: Some Strategies for a Successful Mediation Negotiation with Dean J. Zipser and co-authorship of the chapter on pretrial motions in the California State Bar Litigation Section’s yearly update of California law (2005, 2006). She is regularly featured on the television show “Inside OC” with Rick Reiff to discuss legal issues.
Ashleigh received her B.A. in Secondary Education at Boston College, and her J.D. at University of Southern California, Gould School of Law. An avid fan of the arts, Ashleigh and her family are generous supporters of the arts and culture in Orange County, particularly South Coast Repertory (where Ashleigh has served as a gala committee member) and Segerstrom Center for the Arts, where they are frequent underwriters of new productions. Ashleigh was also appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown to serve on the Orange County Fair Board, where she oversaw the first major public art installment on the property.
