Brian L. Smith

BRIAN L. SMITH has been representing Connecticut employers and insurance companies in workers' compensation matters since 1991. He is one of only 52 Board Certified Workers' Compensation Specialists in Connecticut, having held that distinction since 2005. He has handled complex workers' compensation claims that have involved appeals to the Compensation Review Board, Connecticut's Appellate Court and Connecticut's Supreme Court. He serves on the Connecticut Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Executive Committee, its Continuing Legal Education subcommittee, and he is a past president of the Waterbury Bar Association (2002-2004).Attorney Smith joined Pomeranz, Drayton & Stabnick in September 2014. He previously practiced with Zurich's Hartford Staff Legal Office (Sharp, Shields & Smith) from 2000 to 2014 and was a junior partner at Carmody & Torrance in Waterbury, where he practiced from 1991 to 2000. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut and U.S District Court, District of Connecticut. Attorney Smith received his law degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law in 1991 (Magna Cum Laude), where he was an academic invitee to Quinnipiac University's Law Review. He received his bachelor's degree in Political Science from Hartwick College (Magna Cum Laude) in 1985.
