Carey focuses her practice on business law, commercial litigation, and estate planning. She advises entities on all aspects of their business and has been involved in a wide range of commercial transactions and complex commercial litigation. Carey has appeared in the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court and was admitted pro hac vice into the United States District Court for the District of Nevada in order to litigate a private securities fraud suit. Additionally, Carey has formed several non-profit entities and understands the specific challenges faced when applying for exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.Carey received two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Michigan State University and attended law school at Wayne State University. Carey was active in Wayne State's moot court program where she was elected to the National Moot Court Team and served as a coach to junior team members. Carey was involved in the Small Business and Non-Profit Clinic and the Free Legal Aid Clinic, providing legal assistance to low income residents of Wayne County. Prior to attending law school, Carey worked in marketing and business development for both a closely held company and a Fortune 500 company. Having worked in a corporate environment prior to practicing law gives her a unique and valuable perspective with respect to corporate planning.
