ABOUT Charles G. Douglas III

Chuck is one of the founding lawyers of Douglas, Leonard & Garvey, P.C. Chuck focuses his practice solely on litigation. Chuck has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 23rd Edition of The Best Lawyers In America in the practice area of Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs. Chuck has also been named the Best Lawyers’ 2017 Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs – “Lawyer of the Year” for Concord. Only a single lawyer in each practice area and community is honored with a the “Lawyer of the Year” award. Chuck brings a unique background in representing our clients. He served as a Justice on the New Hampshire Supreme Court, our highest court in New Hampshire. Before that, he was a judge on the Superior Court trial bench. He has an “AV-Preeminent” rating, the highest rating available in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, a publication which independently rates lawyers on the basis of their peers’ opinions. Chuck was most recently appointed Chairman of the Governor’s Judicial Selection Committee. The Committee reviews judicial applications and makes recommendations to the Governor to fill judicial vacancies. Prior to founding the firm, Chuck served as legal counsel to then-Governor Meldrim Thomson, Jr. in 1973 -1974. He was appointed as a Superior Court Judge from 1974 – 1976. In 1977, Chuck became one of the youngest New Hampshire Supreme Court Justices, serving until 1985. Chuck served as a Congressman in the United States House of Representatives, Second District, in 1989 -1990. Chuck has served as an Adjunct Faculty member at University of New Hampshire School of Law and at the American Bar Association’s Appellate Judge’s Seminars. He has served as Chairman of the New Hampshire Constitution Bicentennial Education Commission and a member of the Constitutional Convention Study Commission. Because of his experience as a New Hampshire Superior Court Judge and New Hampshire Supreme Court Justice along with his record as a successful trial lawyer, Chuck is frequently requested to lecture on personal injury and employment law matters. In addition to publishing over forty articles, Chuck is the author of two books: New Hampshire Practice and Procedure: Family Law. This is the definitive source for New Hampshire Divorce and family law. His Family Law book is used by New Hampshire divorce and family law attorneys and is frequently referred to in New Hampshire Supreme Court decisions. Chuck also authored the New Hampshire Evidence Manual. This evidence book is relied upon by New Hampshire lawyers and courts during litigation. His evidence book is cited by the New Hampshire Supreme Court.
