ABOUT Charles Starnes

Charles is a member of the Defense Research Institute, a premier national organization of civil defense attorneys. He is a contributor to DRI’s Governmental Liability Newsletter on emerging civil rights and employment issues and has co-authored a primer on Section 1983 civil rights litigation. Charles has also lectured and taught legal education classes on the defense of law enforcement officials in wrongful conviction claims, the FMLA certification process, and the use of social media in employment from the recruitment process through termination.

Charles graduated from Temple University Beasley School of Law. During law school, he served as Managing Editor of the Temple Political and Civil Rights Law Review and interned with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and the Philadelphia Law Department’s Civil Rights Unit. Prior to law school, he received a master’s degree in history from Villanova University and bachelor’s degrees in history and religious studies from Centenary College of Louisiana.

Prior to joining Leib Knott Gaynor, Charles worked for two top-rated firms in the Philadelphia area representing government officials and employers. He is admitted to practice before state and federal courts in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
