ABOUT David S. Rintoul

Attorney Rintoul is a Connecticut employment and long-term disability attorney with a diverse ERISA benefits, business law, employment law, and general litigation practice throughout Fairfield County and the State of Connecticut. He advises employers and employees regarding Connecticut non-compete agreements, employment agreements, severance and separation agreements, and he advises and represents employees in a wide variety of other employment matters as well. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York, and represents clients with ERISA claims and long-term disability appeals in Westchester County and New York City. He writes the Claimant’s ERISA Blog.

Attorney Rintoul has substantial litigation experience, having handled numerous trials and appeals in state and federal court, as well as many administrative hearings before many state agencies including the Connecticut Retirement Services Division Commission and Medical Examination Board, the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, the Freedom of Information Commission, Department of Insurance External Review, and local zoning agencies. He has been class counsel in national and Connecticut class action lawsuits. He represents claimants in long-term disability benefit appeals, for both group ERISA plans, private disability insurance, health insurance claim denials. He handles a wide variety of pension claims, including pensions from private employers, the State of Connecticut, including disability retirement pensions and municipal pensions.

Attorney Rintoul also regularly lectures and writes on a variety of subjects on Connecticut law. He has taught seminars in a broad range of employment and employee benefit matters for the Connecticut Bar Association and other continuing legal education organizations. He has lectured nationally on business and legal issues involved with professional and consulting practices.

Attorney Rintoul is admitted to practice in Connecticut and New York State, and is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, and the New York Bar Association. He was the Chair of the Labor & Employment Section of the Connecticut Bar Association for 2016-2017. He was named a Connecticut Super Lawyers in 2006, and 2016 and 2018. David resides in Wilton, Connecticut with his wife, Wendy Kerner, who is a professional harpist. In addition to his employment and ERISA practice, he is an avid amateur trombonist. He has played with the Civic Orchestra of New Haven (Principal), and the American Chamber Orchestra in Fairfield, Troupers Light Opera Company in Darien, the Wesleyan Orchestra, the Connecticut College Orchestra, the Oddfellows Summer Circus Camp Band in Middletown, the Glenn Hansen Big Band, and other classical, jazz and rock groups around the state. He enjoys cooking, and has won blue ribbons at county fairs for his baking.
