ABOUT Frank M. Weyer

FRANK WEYER is a registered patent attorney. He practices in litigation, prosecution, and transactional matters in patent, trademark and copyright law.

Mr. Weyer holds a Law degree from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall, where he received honors for developing a computer program and mathematical model of the litigation process. Mr. Weyer also holds a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. He completed work toward a Ph.D. in underwater robotics in a joint Ph.D. program between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and is an alum of those institutions.

Mr. Weyer was a legislative intern for the U.S. House of Representatives' Science and Technology Committee and served as a United States Peace Corps volunteer. While in the Peace Corps, he worked on alternative energy and irrigation projects in the country of Lesotho in Southern Africa. He also worked as a Mechanical Engineer on NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.

Mr. Weyer also recently participated in multiple sub-ice expeditions at the earth's poles. He was part of a research team on two NASA sponsored expeditions to the Arctic Circle on the Swedish ice breaker Oden, where he participated in conducting searches under the Polar Ice Cap for deep-ocean thermal volcanic vents using autonomous underwater vehicles. In 2011, he was part of a research expedition to Antarctica on the U.S. ice breaker Nathanial Palmer. On that research expedition, he used a deep-ocean underwater camera platform to search for predatory species invading the Antarctic Continental Shelf, applying methods he developed for calculating the sizes of species from stereo-photographs. Mr. Weyer is presently producing a documentary film about that Antarctic expedition.
