Gary Kalkstein, the principal partner in Kalkstein, Johnson & Dye, P.C., graduated from the University of Montana. He then taught special education until he returned to school at the University of Montana School of Law, from which he graduated in 1987. Upon graduation, he clerked for Justice John Sheehy at the Montana Supreme Court. Following his clerkship, Gary entered private practice and became a partner in the law firm Quane, Smith, Howard & Hull, a Boise-based law firm with an office in Missoula. Gary opened his own office in Missoula in 1994. Gary has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in civil disputes throughout the state of Montana. Over the last twenty-five years, Gary has handled and reviewed thousands of claims, coverage disputes, and personal injury actions. Gary's current practice focuses on representing doctors and other healthcare professionals who have been sued for malpractice, as well as plaintiff's personal injury work. In 2005, Gary received an "AV" rating from Martindale Hubbell - meaning that he has been rated by his peers at the highest possible levels for professional ethics and legal ability.
Gary is a member of the Montana Bar Association and is admitted to practice in all Montana state and federal courts. Gary enjoys mountain biking and hiking with his wife Janet. Gary and Janet have two adult children they enjoy seeing whenever possible. Gary also experiences the pleasure and pain of being a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan.
