ABOUT Gretchen Beall Schumann

Gretchen Beall Schumann, a founding partner of the firm, has extensive experience in matters involving complex domestic and international aspects of family law. She is a frequent presenter for legal, academic and corporate institutions here and abroad, including on the procedural and substantive aspects of the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act, electronic privacy and family law, equitable distribution of New York businesses, trial advocacy and the financial ramifications of divorce. Ms. Schumann was recently listed in Metro Super Lawyers as one of the Top 50 Women Attorneys in New York. She has also served as a commentator for print media with respect to name change and other matters and has authored chapters on New York family law practice for international publications.

Ms. Schumann is the current President of the New York Women’s Bar Association Foundation, Inc. and a past President of the New York Women’s Bar Association (2010-2011); before that, she was the Association’s Vice President and Treasurer. From 2005 until 2008, she served as Secretary of the New York City Bar Committee on Children and the Law, and from 2004 until 2007, as Secretary of the New York County Lawyers’ Association Matrimonial Law Section. Ms. Schumann is currently a member of the Advisory Committee for the New Lawyer Institute at the New York City Bar and the President’s Council of Cornell Women.

Ms. Schumann graduated from Cornell Law School in 2001, and from Columbia College, Columbia University, with an A.B. in English, in 1998.

Ms. Schumann is the author of "USA - New York Divorce Laws, Providing Current and Practical Legal Information," part of International Comparative Legal Guides Series 2017

Ms. Schumann is also admitted in the State of New Jersey.
