Heather Canning is an Associate Attorney and practices in the areas of bankruptcy and related litigation. Ms. Canning is licensed to practice in New York and California and has represented hundreds of clients in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
Ms. Canning is a member of the American Bar Association and the Central District Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys Association. She is known for her friendly and professional demeanor with clients, and is a strong and passionate advocate in court. Ms. Canning graduated from Hofstra University Law School in New York, where she was a Senior Editor of the Hofstra Law Review and received awards in for her work in Commercial Law and Intellectual Property. During law school, she worked in the legal departments of Forbes.com and Bloomberg, LP, specializing in corporate bankruptcy and new media advertising issues.
Ms. Canning began her legal career clerking at New York’s Second Department Appellate Division for Justice Joseph Covello. She gained great experience drafting opinions and memorandum for the Judge and learned how to successfully argue cases in front of the Court. This prompted her to concentrate her career on litigation so she would have the opportunity to regularly articulate her positions in front of a Judge. Her love of the courtroom plus her desire to help those in need ultimately led her to Bankruptcy Court.
Ms. Canning grew up in Boston and attended UCLA for her undergraduate degree in history with a minor in French. She plays the flute and loves all kinds of music, travel, and yes, the Boston Red Sox.
