ABOUT J. Willis Garrett III

Willis graduated from Spring Hill College in 2004 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both English and Theology. He attended the University of Alabama School of Law and received his Juris Doctor degree in 2007.

Willis represents corporate and individual clients in a variety of legal fields including commercial and consumer bankruptcy, creditor’s rights, real property disputes, landlord/tenant law, estate planning, commercial contractual issues, and legal entity formation. In addition to advising businesses in corporate and transactional matters, Willis litigates civil matters on behalf of his clients in both Mobile and Baldwin County Courts and before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

His litigation practice extends beyond the final judgment of a case to both appellate practice and post-judgment collection work.

Bankruptcy forms an integral part of Willis’ practice. He represents both creditors and debtors before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Alabama in cases filed under Chapters 7, 11, and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code. A large portion of his bankruptcy practice involves appearing for individual and corporate debtors in complex Chapter 11 bankruptcies. Outside of and prior to bankruptcy filing, he advises his clients in regard to their debts and advocates on their behalf in debt restructuring, loan workouts, and settlement negotiations.

Willis originally hails from Montgomery, Alabama and is a third-generation attorney in his family following his father and grandfather in the practice of law.

Willis has been with the firm since 2007. Having played in rock bands since his high school days he still enjoys writing and recording music in his free time. An avid outdoorsman, he can also often be found paddling his canoe in the Mobile Delta or spending time at his hunting camp in Bullock County.
