Jack C. Helgesen

Jack Helgesen enjoys fighting bullies. Jack graduated from Brigham Young University Law School in 1980. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona and started out his career creating trusts and estate plans. After acquiring a broad knowledge of the legal process, he returned to Utah. Together with one of his friends from law school, Jack established his own law firm. He became a trial lawyer and was involved in hundreds of civil and criminal trials. As a criminal defense lawyer, he joined the ranks of only a few Utah lawyers to ever win acquittals from a juries in kidnapping, rape and murder trials. As a juvenile court lawyer, he represented young Utahns in hundreds of trials and hearings. It is important to his firm to help children in tough situations, they have carried on this tradition for over twenty-five years. As a medical malpractice lawyer, he was awarded one of the first million dollar awards in a Utah medical trial. His law firm has been winning settlements and awards in medical malpractice cases since 1982. As an injury trial lawyer, Jack has helped many injured Utahns. He has won some of the largest settlements in Utah history. Over the last twenty-five years, Helgesen, Waterfall & Jones has successfully resolved hundreds of injury cases. As a consumer trial lawyer, He and his partners have been winning cases for over twenty-five years. He filed the law suit Brumley v. Tax commission and won, at trial and through multiple appeals, over $70 million dollars which is one of the largest class action judgments in the history of Utah. Jack has developed a reputation of winning cases. He has received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. This rating puts him in the top 5% of American lawyers for legal ability and ethics.

Over his career, he has been more than just an attorney. Jack Helgesen has been a leader among attorneys all over America. He is a former President of the Utah Trial Lawyers Association. He was a Governor for more than ten years of the Association of American Trial Lawyers, the largest trial lawyer organization in America. He is currently a a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, a Master with the American Inns of Court and Governor of the American Association of Justice in Washington, D.C..
