ABOUT Jean S. Brown

Jean Brown, the founding attorney of Jean Brown Family Law Offices, graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism in 1974. In 1975 Jean moved to San Antonio to take a position as copywriter-producer for a local advertising agency. Her work there garnered a high-level advertising award for best Spanish-language television production. In 1995 Jean opened a successful fitness studio in San Antonio, which led to her daily television show, the first locally produced exercise program in the city. The live show was never scripted, so Jean learned the art of educating the audience spontaneously through instruction and inspirational monologue. This experience was invaluable for trial work - Jean claims that her ability to communicate effectively to a courtroom jury was developed during those live shows, and perhaps listening to many, many Baptist sermons in her youth.

After Jean's advertising and fitness career, she traveled with the All Stars, a group of retired NFL and NBA players, doing substance abuse work in high schools across the nation. Again, the job necessitated creative, impromptu communication and teaching skills targeting a large group of people from diverse backgrounds. While such skills can be practiced and improved, Jean believes that they require an innate ability as well. A litigator's job is to communicate with and educate the client, the judge, and/or jury. Top litigators enter the courtroom prepared, but not scripted. They think on their feet and, if necessary, adapt strategies to guide the jury's attention. Former Judge, Terry McDonald, has praised Jean Brown's ability to do just that, calling her a "real litigator." Jean practiced insurance defense work before establishing her own law firm. Originally, she focused her practice on criminal cases, but soon realized that family law - helping families in crisis - was her true calling.

Jean Brown graduated cum laude from St. Mary's University School of Law and was selected to write for the San Antonio Bar Review. She is a member of the Order of the Coif and Phi Delta Phi, attorneys' honor societies.

Jean is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas State Bar Association, and the San Antonio Family Lawyer's Association. She is licensed to practice in the Western, Eastern, Northern and Southern Federal Districts of Texas, and is a licensed mediator in family law matters.

Although, Jean loves the courtroom, she mediates family law cases whenever feasible.
