Born and raised in Hanover County, Virginia, John attended Virginia Tech for his undergraduate degree and The University of Richmond Law School for his Juris Doctor. He is the author of numerous legal publications and is a member of the Richmond and Fredericksburg Area Bar Associations as well as the Christian Legal Society, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice and Serves on the executive committee of the Lewis F. Powell Jr. American Inn of Court. His most recent position was General Counsel for the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association which primarily involved lobbying the General Assembly on behalf of personal injury attorneys and their clients.
Outside of the office, John’s life revolves around his home in Ashland, Virginia with his wife of fifteen years and their three girls who keep them busy with their gymnastics, dance and golf. When people ask his girls what their dad does for a living the say “he is a lawyer so his job is helping people.”

Managed government affairs and lobbied on behalf of the association’s membership to the Virginia General Assembly during the 2016 and 2017 sessions. Monitored 500+ bills during each session, including speaking in committees on many of them. Authored and shepherded 5 bills each session as VTLA’s legislative platform; all 10 bills became law. Attended numerous events for legislators throughout the year as the VTL PAC representative. Served as staff representative on VTLA’s Criminal and Business Law Sections, Ethics, Judicial Affairs and Amicus committees, and the numerous committees within the Virginia Criminal Justice Conference.

Managed the Fredericksburg branch office once it opened in February of 2009. Ten years of experience litigating plaintiff’s personal injury cases in all local courts, including both Circuit and General District courts, and Federal Circuit. Experience consists of 50+ jury trials and 150+ general district trials. Drafted two briefs for the Virginia Supreme Court, and argued one to a writ panel. Consistently managed a caseload of around 160-200 clients with 4 legal assistants. Handled difficult lien disputes, including ERISA and Medicare liens, for many attorneys around the firm.

Handled health care related cases from beginning to end. Most cases involved defense of physicians and other providers in medical malpractice suits, but also represented physicians before state regulatory boards. About 20% of the billable hours were defending personal injury cases on behalf of GMAC insurance. Researched the many changes to the HIPAA statutes on behalf of our clients who were medical providers.
