John J. Buckley is an associate with the firm and focuses his practice on labor and employment law. John practices in front of federal and state courts at the trial and appellate levels as well as governmental agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. He litigates cases involving a variety of labor and employment law issues, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour claims. He assists employers in the public, non-profit, and private sectors, including those in the healthcare, manufacturing, and e-commerce fields, with navigating the increasingly complicated and ever-changing area of labor and employment law.
John advises clients, including human resources representatives and business owners, on a wide variety of day-to-day workplace issues, such as responding to leave requests under the Family and Medical Leave Act, providing reasonable accommodations under the Americans With Disabilities Act, and disciplining or terminating employees. He prepares and reviews workplace policies, employee handbooks, and affirmative action plans. John also prepares and reviews employment and separation agreements, advising his clients on critical non-competition, non-solicitation, and confidentiality provisions. He conducts training programs for both employees and supervisors on workplace matters, including harassment and diversity.
John also represents clients in traditional labor law matters, including unfair labor practice charges. He counsels employers in union avoidance and has helped clients successfully defeat union representation elections. John also assists employers in collective bargaining negotiations.
John has authored numerous articles and presented continuing education programs on labor and employment law issues for legal and human resources professionals.
Before entering private practice, John served as law clerk to the Honorable A. Richard Caputo, United States District Judge, for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Outside of work, John serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Council and the Advisory Board of the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania.
