ABOUT Kim Cordova

Before joining Edward Brass in criminal defense practice in 2010, attorney Kim Cordova was first a law clerk and then a prosecutor for the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office from 2000 through 2009. She represented the State of Utah in a variety of felony cases, including homicides, and tried numerous cases to verdict. She has particular expertise in alleged sex offenses, having been assigned to the special victims' team in the District Attorney's office, which focuses on offenses against adults and children, including offenses such as rape and aggravated sexual abuse of a child. Ms. Cordova has developed expertise in direct and cross examination of expert witnesses in areas such as eyewitness identification, medical professionals, and DNA. In her first two years as a defense attorney she has acted as co-counsel in a lengthy, highly publicized homicide trial, and won not guilty verdicts in a multiple complainant sex offense case and in an aggravated kidnapping case.

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Ms. Cordova graduated from Westminster College in 1995 and the University of Utah law school in 2001. Prior to pursuing her law degree, she worked for Juvenile Justice Services and Juvenile Probation, giving her special insight into juvenile offenses and the often confusing juvenile court process. She has also tried many cases before juries, from misdemeanors to felonies, and has experience handling DUI, domestic violence, drug possession, assaults, thefts, white collar crimes, child abuse, and homicide charges. Ms. Cordova is familiar with and known to Utah court personnel, law enforcement, prosecutors, social workers, and medical professionals, and has trained law enforcement and medical professionals regarding the criminal justice system, jury trials, and changes in criminal statutes. She continues to lecture to such groups in her capacity as a defense attorney.

Ms. Cordova is a member of the committee of ethics and discipline for the Utah State Bar, participating in lawyer disciplinary hearings, is a member of the Aldon J. Anderson Inn of Court, is a member of the Mary Willis Critchlow Society of the YWCA, and is Secretary of the School Board of her sons' school
