Malcolm Goodrich was raised in Western Montana but has lived in Billings, Montana since 1984. Prior to attending law school, he studied International Relations as a graduate student at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, England. In 1984, Malcolm graduated with honors from the University of Montana School of Law. After graduation, he joined what is now known as “Crowley Fleck, PLLP” in its Billings office that year. While at the Crowley firm, Malcolm primarily practiced bankruptcy and banking litigation law, obtaining his national certification in 1994 as a business bankruptcy specialist with the American Board of Certification.
In 2000, Malcolm left the Crowley firm to form the Goodrich Law Firm PC, which merged with the Reely Law Firm PC in 2016 to create Goodrich & Reely, PLLC.
Malcolm is listed in the “Best Lawyers in America”, “Mountain States Super Lawyers”, and the “Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers”. In particular, he is listed by “Best Lawyers in America” in the categories of Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law, as well as for Litigation - Bankruptcy. He is named as the sole 2018 Missoula Montana Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law “Lawyer of the Year” by “Best Lawyers in America”.
Malcolm served as lawyer representative for Montana to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals from 2014-2017 and has served as President of the Bankruptcy Section of the Montana State Bar in the past. He has given numerous CLE presentations on bankruptcy and banking litigation matters throughout Montana.
Malcolm represents a diverse group of agricultural and commercial lender clients. He also represents significant business bankruptcy debtor clients, including obtaining confirmation of a debtor reorganization plan in the largest Montana business bankruptcy case of “In Re Southern Montana Electric Generation and Transmission, Inc.”, Case No. 11-62031.
In addition to his bankruptcy and banking litigation practice, Malcolm represents many clients on farm and ranch purchases and sales in Central and Eastern Montana.
Malcolm practices throughout the State of Montana in state and federal courts.
Malcolm is a past Yellowstone County School District 2 board member and chairman, and is currently a board member for the Friends of Yellowstone Public Radio and the non-profit Bishop Fox Corporation. His hobbies include working on old motorcycles and the study, and teaching, of martial arts.
