Marivel Montes is Of Counsel in Butler’s Chicago office. Her primary focus is First-Party Property Claims and Litigation, Third Party Coverage, and Casualty Defense.
Marivel received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She received a Juris Doctor degree from the John Marshall Law School. She is fluent in Spanish with full business proficiency.
Marivel joined the firm after working fifteen years in the Railroad/Transportation industry. For the last several years Marivel was the Director of Risk Management for her company where she supervised and managed the company’s comprehensive risk management program including supervising the in-house team of claims adjusters. She also provided support and assistance in directing the company’s litigation matters by working with both in-house and outside counsel. Marivel was also responsible for procuring all commercial general liability and property insurance coverage for the company in both the domestic and international rail insurance markets.
Prior to becoming the Director, Marivel served as an Associate General Counsel in the litigation division of her company. She has extensive experience as a defense attorney and has tried several matters to verdict as lead trial counsel. Her extensive experience as a litigator includes claims investigations, conducting examinations under oath, and providing risk analysis opinions. As a litigator she also argued before the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
