ABOUT Mark H. Steinbach

Mark Steinbach joined Gordon, Wolf & Carney, CHTD as “Of Counsel” on February 1, 2015, after working closely with its attorneys for over 15 years on consumer class action lawsuits against car dealers and auto finance companies. He has been practicing law since 1974.

Mr. Steinbach began his legal career as a Staff Attorney at the Center for Auto Safety, a non-profit consumer and safety advocacy organization in Washington, D.C. There, he successfully sued the federal government to improve highway work-zone safety and used the Federal Advisory Committee Act to open previously closed government meetings to public scrutiny.

Mr. Steinbach’s practice has included representing many individual consumers as well as consumer groups such as the Fiero Fire Fighters (organized to help Pontiac Fiero owners whose cars caught on fire) and the Disgruntled Diesel Owners Group (organized to assist many thousands of residents in Maryland and elsewhere who experienced expensive engine and/or transmission problems in the diesel-powered vehicles General Motors produced beginning in 1979 in response to an earlier oil embargo). Representing the Audi Victims Network, Mr. Steinbach lodged a successful challenge to a proposed class action settlement that would have required Audi 5000 owners to purchase expensive new Audi vehicles to obtain any benefits from the settlement.

Mr. Steinbach has been active in promoting consumer education and advocacy through 12 years of service on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition, serving two terms as President. He also served for 6 years on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Consumer Advocates.

Since the late 1990’s, Mr. Steinbach has worked closely with his colleagues at Gordon, Wolf & Carney on class action litigation brought against car dealers and auto finance companies, seeking and obtaining millions of dollars in damages. Mr. Steinbach is AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review RatedSM by Martindale-Hubbell®, the highest possible rating.
