ABOUT Mr. Harold H. Armstrong

Hal joined Robert J. DeBry & Associates in 2016, bringing with him real-world language and legal experience that enhances his practice and helps his clients.

As an undergraduate at the University of Utah, Hal majored in mass communication with a minor in Spanish. On the way to earning his degree, he interrupted his studies first to do charity work in Washington State, where he learned Spanish, then again to serve in the U.S. Army as a linguist and enemy prisoner of war interrogator. Part of his training included the Russian language course at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, before attending Army Intelligence School in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona.

Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School lured Hal away from the University of Utah by awarding him a guaranteed three-year, full-tuition scholarship, but he still wears red on Saturdays in the fall.

After completing his military service and law degree, Hal clerked for the Second Judicial District Court in Ogden, continuing to learn about the law and gaining useful insight into the judicial decision-making process. Hal then worked as an associate for Peter Stirba, defending government officers in municipal defense cases.

Immediately prior to joining Robert J. DeBry & Associates, Hal ran his own law practice, driven by his belief that regular people deserve legal representation, regardless of their level of income. Hal’s practice involved family law, bankruptcy, and minor criminal defense, as well as litigation.

Outside of his law practice, Hal enjoys playing and coaching hockey. Hal has been coaching youth hockey in Salt Lake since 2006 and has been coaching the Copper Hills High School hockey team since May 2013.
