ABOUT Richard L. Righi

Richard Righi is a founding member of the Righi Law Group Law Firm. The firm provides a full range of transactional and litigation services to builders, developers, contractors, businesses, individuals and the insurance industry. Mr. Righi has earned the AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating as a trial lawyer and litigator.

Mr. Righi has tried over 50 cases to verdict in courts throughout the State of Arizona. His trials have involved major felonies including vehicular homicide (in his early experience as a prosecutor), significant injury cases, product liability, economic loss, breach of contract/warranty, fraud, destruction of real property, and construction defect. Notably, Rick obtained a defense verdict, attorneys fee and cost award on an $850,000.00 contract claim involving the catastrophic failure of Northland Pioneer College in Holbrook, Arizona. His next trial resulted in a defense verdict and cost award on behalf of a general contractor and land owner on a claim alleging total destruction of a residence due to the negligent re-direction of storm water in Sedona, Arizona. His next trial on behalf of a commercial general contractor resulted in a defense award on a 1.7 million dollar job-site injury claim. Rick's most recent jury trial (July 2011) involved numerous fraud and contract related claims. Rick secured a defense verdict on all intent based claims, and brought in jury verdict for $20,000.00 less than a nineteen month old statutory offer made on behalf of his client. In addition to his trial experience, Mr. Rick has taken significant cases to binding arbitration. Notably, Rick obtained a seven figure Arbitration Award in favor of Dr. Ward Construction against Weatherguard Roofing. In June, 2010, Rick successfully defended a national homebuilder against claims of soil movement and resulting architectural and structural damage in a single family home. In that case, the binding net award including fees and costs was approximately $18,000.00, a fraction of the claimant's $150,000.00 total demand. This represents the lowest recent award in Arizona in similar multi-home litigation.

Mr. Righi often represents the interests of clients at the request of national insurance carriers and understands how to effectively manage third-party litigation. He also has experience pursuing primary and additional insurance coverage for his clients, equitable contribution on behalf of insurance carriers, and litigating insurance bad faith issues that arise from complex litigation including defect and toxic tort litigation. Rick has also pursued cases to Judgment, secured payment on behalf of his clients, and argued before the Arizona Court of Appeals. His involvement was instrumental in the reported decision Dr. Ward Construction Co., Inc. 214 Ariz. 152p 3d 1227 (App. 2007).

Mr. Righi is a mediator and arbitrator. He serves as a Judge Pro Tempore of the Maricopa County Superior Court. He has achieved tremendous success for his clients by applying his mediation skill set to litigation matters. Rick has developed a reputation as a problem solver by focusing on protocol designed to cost-effectively advance cases and achieve early resolution. And when a case cannot be resolved early in the process for whatever reason, Mr. Righi has a proven track record at trial.

Rick is the current President of the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel (AADC), the Arizona affiliate of the DRI. Rick is member of the DRI, the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC), and Council on Litigation Management (CLM). He is a former Board Member of the Maricopa County Bar Association Construction Law Section. He belongs to the Home Builders Association of Central Arizona. Mr. Righi has lectured locally and nationally on topics relating to construction and tort litigation and has written numerous articles relating to litigation and ADR.
