ABOUT Rocky M. Cabagnot
For over fifteen years, Rocky Cabagnot has served nonprofits of all sizes, from emerging local charities to national foundations. His practice focuses on helping clients set up and manage strong and legally compliant nonprofits that have a foundation for long-term success. He counsels nonprofits regarding risk management and offers expertise and coaching for sound board governance. He is available to counsel nonprofits regarding day to day issues such as human resources, fundraising or contract drafting/contract review. Additionally, Rocky is available to advise nonprofit clients regarding compliance with important stakeholders such as the Internal Revenue Service, state governments, local governments and funders (both private and governmental). Rocky's practice is focused on helping nonprofits/public charities, private foundations, trade associations, and social enterprises solve problems and thrive beyond them.
For five years, Rocky taught law at an ABA accredited law school in Charlotte, North Carolina. At the law school, he developed the Community Economic Development clinic where law students under his supervision provided pro bono transactional legal services to area nonprofits. Additionally, he has taught as an adjunct professor in the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Master of Public Administration program where he's taught a courses on public administration and nonprofit law and capacity building. Rocky regularly speaks about legal issues affecting nonprofits through his ‘Nonprofit Coffee and Conversation’ community education series with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Library System.
In addition to his legal career, Rocky spent two years running the Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency (a multi-million dollar federally funded nonprofit) as its Executive Director. He credits this experience with providing him exceptional ability to holistically counsel and represent his nonprofit clients. When nonprofits retain Rocky's services, they get excellent legal counsel combined with practical management advice and experience.
Rocky received a Juris Doctor degree (with Honors) from the University of Florida Levin College of Law where he served as Senior Research Editor of the Florida Law Review. He also received a Masters Degree (Mass Communication) from the University of Florida. He received his Bachelor Degree (Political Science and Mass Communication double major) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He is a Member in Good Standing with the North Carolina and Florida Bars.
