ABOUT Ronnie Yeates

A third-generation Texan, Ronnie Yeates was born in Houston and grew up with his family in Montgomery County, Texas.

Ronnie received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice – Law Enforcement at Sam Houston State University 1997. While there, he interned with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, where investigated cold cases and homicides. After graduating, Ronnie went on to attend South Texas College of Law in Houston, during which time he also interned with the Harris County District Attorney’s office in the 184th District Court, assisting in the prosecution of multiple felonies, including felony DWI cases.

In 2001, Ronnie began working for the Walker County District Attorney’s Office as a Felony Prosecutor. He prosecuted Aggravated Offenses, Felony DWI’s, and drug charges in the 278th District Court.

Following his time at the Walker County District Attorney’s Office, Ronnie filled a newly created position in Grimes County as their Second Assistant District Attorney. Over the next 16 years, Ronnie prosecuted tens of thousands of cases from misdemeanors in Justice Court to 25-to-life felony charges, specializing in cases pertaining to weapons, DWI’s, drug charges, and transportation code violations. He also reviewed all the Occupational Driver’s Licenses submitted, examined evidentiary search warrants, and advised law enforcement on changes in the law.

When Ronnie retired in 2018, he went into private practice, where applied his experience in prosecution to defend the rights of the accused. Over the course of a year, Ronnie completed 91 hours of continuing legal education with 49 hours in DWI specialization alone. This specialized training certified him as DWI Trial Warrior with the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. It also entitled him to be a Member of the Texas State Bar College (an honor bestowed upon only 8% of Lawyers).

Also during that time, Ronnie was recognized as a DWI Trial Warrior with the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, as a Member of the State Bar College, a National Trial Lawyers Association top 100, and a “Ten Best” attorney in client satisfaction with both the American Institute of DUI/DWI Attorneys and American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys.

In addition to being an experienced attorney, Ronnie is a firearm and automotive enthusiast. As a Licensed Federal Firearms Manufacturer (07/02 SOT) with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, he is exceptionally familiar with firearms laws and the potential impact of criminal charges on the client’s rights to keep and bear arms. He grew up around cars and has built numerous custom vehicles.

Today, Ronnie continues to use his talents and expertise in private practice as a criminal lawyer. Ronnie’s has worked hard to set himself apart in experience and education while also building relationships with law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges.
