ABOUT Thomas J. Rossa

Thom came to Hayes Soloway in 2011 with extensive intellectual property experience in the private sector and four years as a corporate patent counsel. Mr. Rossa's litigation experience centers on intellectual property principally dealing with patent and trademark infringement matters but also dealing with related contracts, trade secrets, unfair competition and employment agreements. Technologies litigated include software, exercise equipment, electrical controls, sporting goods, industrial filters, intravenous therapy (catheters), industrial coatings and adhesive application equipment. He has appeared in the U.S. International Trade Commission (§ 337 trial/hearing) and in over 20 Federal District Courts. He has also managed litigation in Canada, Germany, France and Japan and conducted a patent validity trial in the European Patent Office. Mr. Rossa has also been active in the preparation and prosecution of applications for patents in a wide range of mechanical, sporting goods, electrical, software and electronic technologies. He also has litigated trademark infringement matters and handled trademark oppositions and cancellation proceedings. He has appeared as an expert witness on issues relating to patents and licensing. He has also lectured on intellectual property to various bar and business organizations. Mr. Rossa has an engineering degree including undergraduate work and graduate work in nuclear engineering and electronics. He also served on a nuclear submarine for several years and later served in the Naval Reserve.
