ABOUT Todd A. Schoenhaus, Esquire

Concentration: Todd Schoenhaus is a Philadelphia personal injury attorney who concentrates his practice on product liability, premises liability, construction and industrial machinery defects, vehicle accidents, professional malpractice, and civil rights. He represents injured persons, from minors to the elderly, and their families, in catastrophic injury and wrongful death litigation, through which he has achieved significant recoveries totaling millions of dollars since joining Eisenberg Rothweiler in 2012. Mr. Schoenhaus also handles mass tort litigation involving medical devices and pharmaceutical products, as well as pro bono work. He has lectured on topics including Third Party Liability for Workplace Injuries in 2014. Mr. Schoenhaus was featured in the 2015-16 edition of The Who’s Who Directories as one of its Top Attorneys of North America.

Experience: Mr. Schoenhaus bought to Eisenberg Rothweiler a great deal of experience handling cases, from both the plaintiff and defense side, in Philadelphia courts and elsewhere. Before joining the Firm in 2012, Mr. Schoenhaus was a litigation partner in the international law firm Blank Rome LLP, where he spent a decade litigating a wide array of tort and contract matters on behalf of individuals and companies throughout the country. Among his many notable accomplishments, Mr. Schoenhaus successfully handled a multi-million dollar medical malpractice claim on behalf of a spinal cord injury victim, settled a significant warehouse casualty claim against a pallet rack manufacturer, and defended a freight carrier in a multi-million dollar contractual indemnification claim stemming from its employee's paraplegic loading injury. In his capacity as national coordinating counsel, for both an industrial manufacturer and large national cemetery operator, he coordinated the defense and trial strategy in numerous and widespread asbestos, negligence, and breach of contract claims.

While at Blank Rome, Mr. Schoenhaus specialized in obtaining insurance coverage for bodily injury and property damage claims, and frequently handled complex business disputes in state and federal courts, mediations and binding arbitrations, work he continues to perform at Eisenberg Rothweiler. Mr. Schoenhaus authored an article published in the February 2006 edition of Risk Management Magazine titled The Liability of the Insurance Broker for Breach of Duty to Advise, a topic on which he lectured at a December 2012 Firm CLE titled How To Add Value To Your Case, Creative Theories: Finding the Needle in the Haystack.

Before his tenure at Blank Rome, Mr. Schoenhaus litigated torts and other cases at the Philadelphia law firm Hoyle, Morris & Kerr, where he started his legal career in 1997. He served as lead trial counsel in the pro bono prisoner civil rights case, Forrest v. Nedab, where a jury in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania awarded compensatory and punitive damages to his client. In addition, the Court awarded attorneys' fees to pro bono counsel, noting in its opinion that Mr. Schoenhaus displayed a "high level of skill" at trial.

Education: Mr. Schoenhaus obtained his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in December of 1996, where he was awarded Writing and Advocacy Class "Best Oralist", achieved moot court competition semifinalist, and served as an Associate Editor of the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform. Mr. Schoenhaus graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, where he captained the mock trial team and was awarded "Best Attorney" at the National Competition in both 1993 and 1994.

Membership/Associations: Mr. Schoenhaus is a member of the American Association for Justice, Pennsylvania Association for Justice, Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, Philadelphia Bar Association, and the Lawyers’ Club of Philadelphia. He is actively involved in the Philadelphia community, serving as a board member of both the University of Michigan Alumni Association's Philadelphia Chapter and the Anti-Defamation League's Eastern Pennsylvania/Delaware region. He is admitted to practice law before many state and federal courts.
