ABOUT William L. Baggett, Jr.

Bill’s practice has focused on private and public construction industry legal issues for over two decades. His cases have involved the design and construction of commercial, institutional, and industrial projects such as: steel mills, power plants, storage facilities, high-rise office towers, environmental remediation projects, hospitals, multi-family condominiums and apartments, embassies, military housing, schools, hotels, casinos, and airports. His clients have included general contractors, subcontractors, design professionals, design/build firms, and owners throughout the country. Bill has significant courtroom experience, including jury trials in state and federal court. He has prosecuted and defended numerous multi-million dollar claims in arbitration. Bill also has represented clients in dozens of mediations. While the bulk of his practice relates to claims, he also frequently advises and negotiates contracts before disputes arise.

Born and raised in Alabama, Bill received his A.B. degree, magna cum laude from Dartmouth College and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1987 where he was Articles Editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review. Following graduation from law school, Bill was a law clerk to the Honorable Albert J. Henderson, Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. From 1988 until 1995, Bill maintained a commercial litigation practice in a large Nashville, Tennessee law firm. He joined Smith, Currie & Hancock in March 1995.
