Early Friday morning, after being involved in a Miami, Florida car crash, a wheelchair-bound
elderly woman is currently hospitalized.Though finally in stable condition, Miami Fire Rescue
tirelessly worked to remove her from the scene in order to transport her to the hospital.
After a 2018 white Ford medical transport van rolled over and collided with a 2017 Nissan
Rogue at the Northwest Third Court and Sixth street intersection near Interstate 95 around 7:15
a.m. the woman found herself trapped amidst the commotion. According to police, the area is
only a few minutes from the Miami Police Department.
Based on reports, it appears that one of the two drivers involved ran a red light and collided with
the other vehicle, said Kenia Fallat, police spokeswoman. It is still undetermined which driver
ran the red light.
The elderly woman was eventually freed from the scene of the crash and taken to Jackson
Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center is reported to be in “serious but stable condition”
according to Fallat. Neither the woman’s exact age nor identity have not been disclosed.
Fallat continued “She had some minor injuries and the medical staff at Jackson Memorial
Hospital continues to observe her.”
According to police, the SUV driver remained at the scene of the crash and sustained no
injuries. The driver of the van was hospitalized with minor injuries, according to police.
The southbound streets between Northwest Fifth to Seventh Street on Northwest Third Court for
over three hours during the occurrence and reopened before 10:30am
